We recommend obtaining a state-of-health (SOH) report from an OBD-II scanner or the manufacturer's app. First-generation Nissan Leaf batteries, particularly those produced between 2011 and 2017, are known for having high failure rates and often have an SOH of under 50%. If your Leaf falls into this category, it may significantly decrease its donation value. Newer models, on the other hand, typically have stronger battery performance, but it’s essential to disclose any battery issues when donating.
EV-specific pickup logistics
When you're ready to donate, our team will arrange for the safe pickup of your electric vehicle. Typically, we use a flatbed tow truck to ensure your EV is handled with care, especially considering the high-voltage systems involved. We also include a charging cable during pickup to promote seamless charging for the new owner. If your vehicle is non-operational, we have protocols in place to handle HV disconnects safely. Optionally, you may request a pre-inspection through a local Tesla service center or dealership to evaluate the vehicle's condition before donation.
What drives donation value
Several factors can influence the value of your donated electric vehicle. Key elements include the battery state-of-health (SOH), odometer reading, body condition, and any advanced features like Autopilot or Full Self-Driving capabilities for Tesla models. If your vehicle is in excellent condition and has a strong battery, it may appraise for over $5,000. On the other hand, older models or those requiring significant repairs may have a donation value in the range of $1,500 to $3,500. Understanding these value drivers can help you make an informed donation decision.
